Swing Into Three | How to Throw an AMAZING Spiderman Birthday for your Child
With great parenting comes great responsibility… and that responsibility is to throw awesome birthday parties! π₯³
If your child is currently obsessed with Spidey, in any variety, you’re in good company! When it came time to celebrate our little superhero’s birthday, we wanted a party that felt fun, simple, and full of all his favorite Spider-Man things. In this post, I’m sharing the decorations, party-planning essentials, and Spidey-inspired favorites that helped make the day special (plus our toddler-approved #1 registry recommendation!)
Why We Picked Spiderman π·οΈ
At the very beginning of this year, we took a family vacation to a place near and dear to us. One of the charming aspects of this place is it feels like a time capsule, complete with VHS’s and old school video games.
When we picked out the original 2002, Tobey Maguire Spiderman VHS for our family movie night, we didn’t think much of it. But 6+ months later, we know how much of an impact it had.
To put it lightly, our son was quickly bitten by the radioactive spider and was obsessed. Everything needed to be Spiderman, from his clothes and books, to fighting to have it be the only movie we ever watched π We compromised though, and settled on… Into the Spiderverse.
Now we had two obsessions on our hands, and the only way to handle that is by throwing an AMAZING Spiderman-Themed birthday party.

The Spidey-ssentials: Decorations, Food & Party Favors

I need to start off by saying – I am extremely grateful for timing for this party. I know Spiderman is a fairly recognizable character, but there were more options available for decorations and snacks due to Spiderman: Brand New Day being advertised. (IE, I can’t promise the Spiderman Pillsbury cookies will always be available π°)
The costume was a requirement, per my son, and he only wanted to be Miles Morales. I found it on Etsy and was blown away by the quality! Plus, it made for some awesome photo opportunities. Don’t ever be afraid to lean into a theme! He just kept his swim trunks on underneath for easy partying.

For our main food option we served pizza, just like the Wall-Crawler delivers in Spiderman 2! It’s an easy crowd pleaser while remaining on theme. For the cupcakes I did my best to make them look straight out of a Spiderman comic book, using these SUPER cake toppers.
The goodie bags were another easy purchase, filled with all sorts of spider-themed items. Spider rings, masks, temporary tattoos & more! If I was throwing this party again, I would have loved to put a can of silly string in each one as well. We can all be web-slingers! πΈοΈ
Pro tip – Check your Halloween decorations before pressing check-out on that cart! I used my Halloween inflatable spider and giant web for this party and they fit in perfectly! Weborah turned into our radioactive spider π·οΈ
All of the other small details I just tried to do my best to make it Peter Parker meets Miles Morales. Lots of red, some blue, some black, and possibly a mirror selfie station fitted with a quote directly from my toddler… π€£
Our Most Re-Used Birthday Buys:
A lot of these are repeats from my blog post last year, for my sons second birthday. But that shows how they can stand the test of time and are truly our most re-used birthday buys!
We purchased a plain white bounce house from Sam’s club a couple years ago and it has really stood the test of time! It’s smaller than most bounce houses, but not a miniature bounce house by any means. It stores well and is super easy to tailor to whatever theme you choose!

This backdrop has been through the ringer! It has been present at almost every one of my close families parties and for good reason. The frame itself is affordable and super easy to store, and they have a ton of different color sleeves to slip right over. Plus the frame is metal, so I’m able to use magnets to attach any decorations! A must-have in my party-planning kit!

Another year, another layer of paint added to my infamous welcome sign! I originally purchased this from a craft store as a plain circular sign, and ever since I have been using it wherever I can. From baby showers to birthdays, this sign has been there done that π I completely recommend neutral pieces like this, they make it so much easier and less wasteful.

This may sound ridiculous, but buy the darn electric balloon pump. Even if you only make 1 balloon display EVER! It’s insanely time-saving and you will always be asked to borrow it. Plus, after using it once, you’ll be much more welcome to the idea of another balloon display in the future. I couldn’t imagine party planning without it!

How We Keep The Spidey-Senses Tingling:
To ensure that our party planning efforts wouldn’t be in vain, I planned to keep our son interested in Spiderman in small ways. Not forced, but just around enough to keep him excited! (Plus, I want him to be hyped for the eventual release of the final Spiderverse movie) Here’s two small ways Spiderman has crawled into our everyday life:
- Reading: We have been reading a ton of Spiderman and Spidey & Friends books since his party. They are full of awesome adjectives and funny banter!
- Alphabet Practice: Somehow, the stars aligned, and our letter of the week the week following his party, was S. S is for Spiderman, obviously! π And yes, he has already asked if V is for Vulture, one of his frightful foes…

BONUS: Top Registry Recommendation for 3 Year Old’s

One item that stuck out to me while building my son’s registry was a Yoto Player Mini. I have seen so many awesome things about Yoto players online, and I’m here to tell you, they’re right. It’s been a blast to add to our learning routine and opens the door for so many future presents with new card packs! I would highly recommend it be added to your 3 year old’s wish list β¨
Final Thoughts
If you are questioning whether your little wall-crawler would love a party like this, take a leap of faith! I hope these ideas help you create a celebration your little superhero will remember long after the last piece of cake is gone π
β€οΈ Until next time
