From curated Easter read-alouds to the precision of Easter egg scissor skills, there is a way for every child to participate. Weβll also dive into creative watercolor art and a playful Easter egg sound match – complete with a free printable – to help sharpen auditory processing and listening skills while celebrating this springtime holiday!
Easter Butcher Paper
This Easter themed butcher paper was a hit with my toddler, and it’s chock-full of hidden learning opportunities! It takes just a few minutes to set up for a morning full of independent play. Here are the four activities I chose:
- Count the Carrots: A simple math activity where little learners have to differentiate between root veggies growing in the garden. Draw as many or as few as your kiddo is ready for!
- Match the Jellybeans: This was a first for my son! With two rows of differently ordered jelly beans, your kiddo will draw a line to connect the matching jellybeans. Afterwards, you can ask them what flavor of jellybeans they think each one represents!
- Build the Bunny: Magnatile anything = a win in this house! This puzzle seems simple at first, but once your little learner realizes there is some overlapping going on, the real challenge begins.
- Trace the Easter Eggs: This tracing activity uses the decorations typically found on those fancy Easter eggs and turns them into learning! Your child can practice tripod grip, and following the lines.
Easter Scissor Skills
This scissor skills activity is easy, quick to set up, and toddler approved! Here is everything I did to set it up, including our bonus art project I threw in there π
- Make your eggs: Trace an egg shape and add a variety of different line types/styles/colors. Depending on your child’s ability level, you could even add circles!
- Give the instructions: Let your crafter know that they will be using their scissors to safely cut along the different decoration-lines.
- Go for practice, not perfect: If they mess up the lines, no biggie! They are still practicing those fine motor skills and that’s what it’s all about βοΈ
- BONUS: This one is a little silly, but my kid loved it! Have your child draw a picture of a baby chick before cutting the egg. Then, let them cut their egg along the lines. Once they finish, piece together the egg on top of the chick, and let your child “crack” the egg to see the chick hatch!
Easter Read Alouds
Whether you are looking for a book to put in an Easter basket, or a few to get your kiddo in the Easter mindset, here are 3 options that have been enjoyed throughout the years!
- The Best Easter Hunt Ever by John Speirs – A detailed look and find book from when I was a kid, and it still stands the test of time!
- The Great Eggscape! by Jory John – A new story from the universe that brought us The Good Egg, full of hidden whimsy and laughs. (+ It comes with stickers!)
- It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny – A cute tale of a bunny feeling lost, and finding out how to truly love what you’ve got. (Not inherently an Easter story, in case you don’t celebrate!)

Easter Egg Watercolor Art
This watercolor activity was a simple way to switch up our usual art projects, and it made such a cute Easter egg decoration! I can imagine making a few of these to make a garland, or set around the house. You only need a few materials and you’re ready to jump in.
- Gather your materials: You’ll need a piece of cardstock or watercolor paper, painters tape, scissors, and watercolors.
- Tape it up: Have your child use the painters tape to create small sections of differing shapes on your paper. (Make sure to press the seams down!)
- Get Painting! π¨
- Allow to dry: Once it has fully dried, remove the tape and trace an egg shape on the paper. Cut the shape out and admire your kiddos beautifully colored egg!
Easter Egg Sound Match
Free Printable!
This last activity is one that is so different from our usual routine, but I am so glad I made it! My son loved the challenge and I can totally see us using the customizable version over and over again, to keep the game going. Here’s everything we did for this awesome musical challenge:
- Print out your free worksheet (see link below): If you pick the version that’s already filled in, this would also be your time to gather the materials listed, plus four eggs. If you pick the custom version, find four fillers for your four eggs as well!
- Explain the game: Tell your kiddo that they will be given four eggs with different things inside of them. Instead of getting to crack them open, they have to shake, listen, and guess the filler. This is all about those listening skills!
- Tally the score: Once they have guessed all four, open and check their work! It might be harder than you’d think!
Final Thoughts
Whether you are looking for a quick morning setup or a deep dive into sensory play, these activities bridge the gap between holiday fun and foundational learning. These simple, low-prep ideas prove that you don’t need a complex setup to create meaningful educational moments at home. Hoppy Holidays! π°π₯π
